Adam Dressner: Hello Stranger 2

September 5 - October 25, 2025

Opening reception: Friday, September 5 @ 6-8pm

39 White Street, Tribeca

1969 Gallery is thrilled to present Adam Dressner: Hello Stranger 2, the artist’s debut solo gallery exhibition, and a continuation of his body of work first publicly displayed at Grand Central Terminal for 3 days last September.

Adam Dressner has made a name for himself by setting up his selfmade “Art Cart” throughout New York City and painting strangers who represent the diversity and vitality of the city. His practice is unpretentious, direct, and about intimate human connection. These quick live paintings are the primary way that Dressner scouts his subjects for his larger oil paintings, recognized for their bright color palettes and strong emotional sensitivity.

For 3 days before the opening, Dressner will station his Art Cart inside 1969 Gallery and live paint a series of people, including some well known individuals in literature, music and the arts, as well as quirky eccentric characters that make New York such a wonderful cultural melting pot. These small live paintings will be exhibited salon style alongside Dressner’s larger works, celebrating the diversity of New York City. The back stories of these individuals are enchanting but the body of work in its entirety with its nuance and individual characteristics underscores the artist’s ability to humanize and make specific while asking the viewer to step back and wonder why on earth we keep staring and thinking about a stranger.
